Until we eat again

Until we eat again
Looking at the Upper West Side, as we walked towards Cooper Hewitt

In our final morning in New York, we tried another bagel place: Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee, which was located in Manhattan, not Brooklyn. A very good bagel that earned a Bagel Score™ of 8 out of 10.

Afterwards, we discussed all the bagels we tried this week, and our favorites were Bagel Hole in Brooklyn, PopUp Bagel and today’s Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee. While we had other fine bagels, these were the clear winners, in our view.

Since we had a few more hours, we went to Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. The museum is located in the Carnegie mansion on the upper east side, close to the Metropolitan Museum. The museum had an exhibit on what makes a home, viewed from a modern perspective of different American cultures. It got us thinking about how the idealized home in the USA is a single-family house, but this is just a cultural norm and not a law of nature. Otherwise, the museum was not particularly interesting. Additionally, we were surprised that there was a $22 admission fee for a Smithsonian museum. Amy noted that the money must have been paying all the security guards.

To finish our trip, we took the subway downtown to Greenwich Village to get some lunch. Some train broke down on our line, so we had to go uptown to 125th St, then change to an express downtown train. However, the subway staff didn’t make this very clear, as there were a lot of people standing around waiting for a downtown train. We eventually reached our destination: the new (to us) Manhattan location of L’Industrie Pizza. Yes, this is the second time we visited L’Industrie this week, but that was completely different since the previous visit was in Brooklyn! The Manhattan location wasn’t quite as good as Brooklyn, but it was more convenient.

We’re now at the airport, waiting to fly home. That makes this the final update from our New York trip, but stay tuned for our next adventure, coming very soon!
