Ultimate coast day
(Ultimate as in final, not as in the best…)
Today was a bonus day in Juneau: it was not part of our original plan, but a change in the ferry schedule a few weeks ago meant that we spent an extra day in Juneau instead of Glacier Bay.
When we were in Juneau last week, we saw all the highlights that interested us. So we spent the morning with chores: groceries, cleaning, laundry, etc. In the afternoon, we kayaked on a new lake for us: Auke Lake. It’s hard not to draw comparisons to nearby Mendenhall Lake, which is larger, prettier and glacier-ier. But Auke Lake did have some nice views of the mountains.

This afternoon was warm by Juneau standards: about 70F. So we had plenty of company on the lake with locals on boats, paddle boards and simply swimming. And a pair of local eagles on the beach.

Tomorrow, we leave Southeast Alaska and start driving again. Follow our progress on the live map.
