The Swamp
The day began with Ari’s final surf lesson. The instructor asked him if he was ok with a little drizzle; Ari replied that he is used to liquid sunshine. The weather improved throughout the lesson, and he had a great time.
We had to leave our campsite by 11am but couldn’t arrive at our site in Pasadena until 5pm. As we drove by Malibu Canyon State Park, Greg suggested we stop and hike again. There was ample parking for the trailer. This time we made the full hike to the M*A*S*H site, just over 5 miles. They had reproductions of props from the show.

When we arrived in Pasadena, we got a Happy New Year text from Mayra, who has been cleaning our home for years. She grew up in Pasadena and is here visiting family and taking her boyfriend to see the Tournament of Roses parade. We nearly forgot that she was here!

Tonight, we are "camping" in a parking lot for a Total Wine store. They closed the store at 5pm, which seems crazy for New Year’s Eve. Pasadena is abuzz with activity as many people are spending the night waiting along the parade route. Some have setup small stoves and toys for kids. Since this is a special occasion, we have reserved grandstand seating for the parade, so we don't have to wait the night. Tomorrow should be exciting.
