Jelly Bellies

Jelly Bellies
Unfortunately, these Jelly Bellies are not to scale

Although we’re finally heading home, we took time today for two side quests. First, before we left the RV park, we winterized the trailer. This involves draining all the water lines so that they don’t freeze and break. This work takes about an hour.

Afterwards, we took the more interesting side quest: a tour of the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield CA. We passed the factory many times when we lived in the Bay Area, and Greg and Brian even passed it last month when moving the motorhome (AKA “R2V2”) back home. But this was the first visit for Greg, and the first in decades for Amy. The tour took us on a walkway above the factory floor. The most surprising fact is that it takes several days to make Jelly Bellies, since they have to rest at several steps in the process.

And of course, we had to stop for a burrito at Roberta’s Taqueria in Williams CA. More Tesla Superchargers need a good taqueria nearby!

Winterizing the trailer turned out to be a good idea since it’s around freezing in the Siskiyou mountains at the border of California and Oregon. This also means we’re spending our last night in a hotel, since an RV without water is inconvenient.
