Wood carved bears do not count in our total

We made it to the end of our first segment. Tomorrow we start the official route to Alaska, but more on that tomorrow!

We started the morning with a kayak on Morfee Lake, which is the lake near our campsite. There are two parts of the lake. We kayaked on the section that did not allow engines. We had the lake to ourselves. Well, we did share it with a couple of bald eagles.

Before we left Mackenzie, we had to stop at its main attraction: The worlds largest tree crusher.

We left later than usual but we had to stop in Chetwynd, which is famous for its chainsaw carvings. Starting in 1992, they have a contest every year and select 12 new carvings to add to the town. A lot of them were very involved and impressive.

We are spending tonight in Dawson Creek. We ran a few errands and are ready for part two.

We have gotten a few comments about our blog, and we really appreciate all the feedback! We are enjoying hearing from you. Please continue!

Finally, after some discussion, we decided that we will only keep count of bears, not other wildlife. We also decided to count only actual bears (black, grizzly, polar??), not statues of bears, paintings of bears, dogs named Bear, players for the Chicago Bears, etc.
