Courtyard by Amy & Greg
Happy hour in the courtyard, viewed from the beach

After three days of driving, we are Back to Santispac! Greg’s birthday on Friday was a relatively quiet day in Ciudad Constitución. It was warm, so we spent the afternoon in the pool. A group of us tossed a volleyball in the pool, and we alternated between playing catch and trying to splash each other. We played like a bunch of children, laughing every moment.

Today, we left early so that we could spend the afternoon on the beach in Santispac. Santispac is a very quiet beach cove, about 30 minutes from the closest town. The services are extremely limited: no electricity, water or even cell phone service. Last time, Greg used our Starlink to setup a guest Wi-Fi network, similar to what you find at a cafe. (Once a nerd, always a nerd).

The beach in Santispac is no longer full; it seems like 1/3 of the space is still available. When we arrived, one person suggested we park “courtyard style”, so we parked 3 RVs in a horseshoe layout so that we have a private-like area at the beach. In the photo above, Amy & Greg’s RV is the one on the right.

After parking, we waded carefully into the Sea of Cortez. We didn’t try swimming last time due to the stingrays. Today, we saw crabs, starfish and schools of fish. And eventually, a few stingrays scurried near our feet. Not as many stingrays as last time, but enough that we decided to leave the water.

The caravan has a tradition of nightly happy hours, usually starting around 5pm and lasting until sunset, which has been around 6:30pm. Since we parked our RV to help setup the courtyard, we decided to host tonight. Greg announced this on the group chat, writing: “Come for the happy hour, stay for the free Wi-Fi”. Except, obviously, the only people who could read the message are those who have their own Starlink! Still, we got a large group including 3 dogs who were happy to sit with Greg. The rest of the caravan are still trying to convince Amy and Greg to get another dog…

Sunset in Santispac. Yes, it really is that lovely.
